We're delighted to announce a bookbinding workshop in the the Wardroom of HMS Caroline, which is currently docked in the Alexandra Dock in Titanic Quarter, Belfast.
Interesting fact: the Wardroom was the officers’ dining and social space aboard HMS Caroline, providing a place to eat, relax and unwind away from their duties. In many ways, it was like a gentleman’s club at sea, where officers could dress for dinner, enjoy a cigar and brandy, or socialise with their fellow officers after a long day of service.
Join Anita, the owner of PAPERCROWN NI for some 'mindful making' where she will teach you how to make your very own hardback notebook, covered in authentic Irish linen, complete with a grosgrain ribbon page marker and a choice of illustrated end papers of Titanic, the iconic Harland & Wolff cranes, SS Nomadic or The Big Fish (fast becoming a favourite tourist attraction at Donegall Quay!).
Anita will talk you through the entire bookbinding process, from binding your pages using waxed linen thread, attaching the Irish linen book cloth to grey board and all the necessary steps in between, to produce a stunning, handcrafted notebook that pays tribute to our linen manufacturing AND shipbuilding heritage.
This is a bookbinding workshop not to be missed and the first of its kind on board HMS Caroline. Ready to step on board?!
This hands-on workshop is perfect for beginners or for those wishing to refresh their bookbinding skills. It's also an amazing opportunity for Maritime and Titanic enthusiasts to create their own hardback book using premium, heritage materials within the unique surroundings of a historic Royal Navy ship.
WHERE: THE WARDROOM, HMS CAROLINE, ALEXANDRA DOCK, QUEEN'S ROAD BT3 9DT
WHEN: SUNDAY, 20 SEPTEMBER 2026 11.00-14.00
ALL MATERIALS & TOOLS WILL BE PROVIDED. 12 SPACES AVAILABLE.
